Кроме того, об уходе в отставку на фоне скандала заявил также директор по коммуникациям на Даунинг-стрит Джек Дойл. По его словам, последние недели ужасно сказались на его семейной жизни.

Скандал произошел в понедельник, 31 января, после заседания в парламенте по поводу расследования о вечеринках на Даунинг-стрит. Стармер задал вопрос Джонсону, однако премьер вместо ответа обвинил его в том, что, будучи генеральным прокурором, тот не смог привлечь к ответственности известного сексуального преступника Джимми Сэвила. Позднее Джонсон взял свои слова обратно, однако отказался принести извинения.
